This collection of mixed-media artworks is a reflection of the seven countries Ró traveled through in July 2024. Each piece is uniquely personal to their experience in these places, with references to events and people they met along their way. Folklore is also deeply inspirational for Ró, so many of the pieces incorporate mythical creatures from the countries into the imagery. These original artworks were displayed in a sold-out exhibition in October 2024.
These artworks were created as part of the 'Buaile' exhibition, a collaborative arts programme which showcased work from Gaelic-influenced artists across three city venues in Inverness from January to March 2025. This collection is deeply influenced by Ró’s passion for folklore and storytelling, core themes of their artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from Gaelic and Nordic culture, these works incorporate Celtic and Norse design elements, blending traditional influences with contemporary techniques.
Ró graduated Secondary Education with an A in Advanced Higher Expressive Art. These artworks are a series of personal self-portraits reflecting on identity, gender, and how we perceive ourselves and are perceived by others. A main inspirational artist for Ró in this collection is the Austrian painter Egon Schiele, whose intense expressionist style and subjects were deeply impactful.
